About Shaun

I grew up in the most unequal society in the world …

I grew up in apartheid South Africa, a country defined by segregation, inequality and poverty. As a teenager I watched Nelson Mandela walk free from prison to help build the new South Africa, hopeful we would see real change.

Today South Africa is the most unequal society in the world. The gap between the rich and poor is bigger than any other. The haves and have nots live worlds apart, often on opposite sides of the same street. On one end of a suburb there will be a mansion on a golf course with a row of sports cars parked outside of it. On the other end there will be fifteen people living in a single bedroom shelter with not enough food to eat.

South Africa’s story is a microcosm of our world. There is the 1% and then the other 99%. Being in the “other 99%” is tough. Getting out of ‘it’ is often impossible.

The pursuit of freedom, justice and prosperity for all has been the driving force of my life.

I hope you enjoy this book and that it helps you contribute to a fairer, more equal and prosperous humanity
